Which BB cream is for me?

I thought I'll better do a review on BB Creams before I talk about the CC or even DD creams. Or before the whole BB cream phase dies off or even makes a permanent stay in our beauty market.

I remember getting my first ever BB cream about 5 years ago and it’s only been recently that we got into its popularity in Australia within the last year or two, whilst Asia’s probably moved onto EE creams. We’ll probably get our DD Creams in Australian counters by 20000018. We love sloppy seconds her down under. Haha.

Ok, so BB Creams stands for Blemish Balms or Beauty Balms, which aim to be a multifunctional product that can moisturize, prime, provide sun block, treat blemishes and even replace foundations. I personally don’t think they can replace all of these functions, but it can however help to reduce the layers of makeup we put on our faces daily.

To me BB Creams kind of fits the definition between a SPF + tinted moisturizer and a light coverage foundation. I like to have my daily sunscreen as the base then have my BB Cream on top. I’ve found that this has worked the best for my sensitive skin as I can’t use BB Creams on their own coz this will just irritate & dry the shit out of my skin. And for when perspiring, I’ll just powder down my T’Zone area for extra oil control.

I prefer my makeup with high SPF, light in texture and simple so my skin can breathe more naturally during the day. I like that using BB Creams can provide a more natural coverage than foundations and extra care than moisturizer on its own. As you will see in the picture below, my natural skin has faint freckles, using BB Cream covers my dark spots and brightens up my skin. It looks natural and not too cake faced for everyday use.

There are many BB creams here on the market and to make your life a lot easier, I’ve categorized them to fit different skin conditions. Depending on what type of skin you are, the ingredients and functions will vary from one BB Cream to another, so find one that optimizes your beauty.

I hope you’ve found this blog post helpful xx

 For Sensitive to Normal Skin

This was one, was my first ever BB Cream. I got it in either in Bali or Malaysia back in 2009 or 2010 when I forgot to pack my sunscreen. I remember thinking, man this is a pretty cool find. It's like between a tinted moisturizer and a light mineral foundation.

I don't know if Maybelline will ever release this product to the Aussie market, coz we've got the Dream 8 in 1 BB Cream already, or maybe it’s even the same product with different packaging? But we sure do get everyone’s sloppy seconds here down under.

Whats in it?

This one from Maybelline is a Mineral product, being mineral means that it's produced with little or no chemically based ingredients. The main benefit of using mineral skincare is that it generally does not clog the pores, which allows for our skin to breathe a lot more easily.

The thing that I love about using mineral makeup is that it allows for coverage that is gentle for even the most sensitive of skins.

My Impression

This one is very affordable, below $10. The texture is quite light and once blended well it gives off a nice dewy finish, but I do find that it does get more cakey then the other BB Creams, so if your wanting optimum results blend, baby blend.

It does feel pretty light on the skin, this is probably because of it being mineral. In terms of coverage, I would rate it between a medium to high. So it will cover most freckles, pimples & dark spots.
The only thing that I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t feel as moisturizing, frequent use will dry out the skin. Somehow, I think it works better as a Primer. Weird, I know.

I’ve heard that Maybelline’s created another mineral SPF 50+ so when I get my hands on this I will do a comparison, so I’ll leave that for another post.

Does it work?

Light weighted.
Med-high coverage.
Great for younger skin.

For Sensitive, Dry & Sun Damaged Skin.

I was Googling for the best BB Cream for sensitive skin and this one came up as one of the most popular ones. I think half of Asia’s probably knows about it or have even used it. I’ve read other peoples reviews on this and its all been pretty positive.

Skin food is one of the most popular skin care ranges in Asia and is currently one of the leading brands in Korea. Their products are everywhere! I have used most of their masks, scrubs & creams and it’s all been ammmmmmazing for my sensitive skin. Kind of like a better pimped up version of Sukin in Australia.

What’s in it?

This BB cream emphasizes on it Aloe Vera content, Aloe helps to relieve the pain and redness of sunburn and even heal skin blemishes. Aloe helps in hydrating the internal skin’s sun damaged area whilst also moisturizing the outer layer of our skin. So basically its hydrating and moisturizing ingredients conceal and nourish our skin simultaneously.

Aloe is suitable for sun damaged and blemish prone skin as its soothing particles helps to cool and prevent skin irritation. This BB Cream is very, very suitable for sensitive and sun damaged skin.

My Impression

The texture is reallllly smooth, not sticky at all. Its blends really well and gives off a nice sheer finish. The coverage is between light and medium but is also very buildable. This is probably one of my favorite ones, as it gives you a “my skin is naturally glowing” kinda feel.

I’ve used it at night too when I can’t be bothered with foundation and I personally feel it’s a better option when your wanting something that adds a nice glow but also allows your skin to breathe a lot more.

I’ve also used this one when my face was a little sunburn and it didn’t irritate my skin at all, it was very soothing to my skin. I always used this as a better alternative to my usual face products when I get sunburn on my face.

But because it’s light coverage and if you’ve got prominent pimples & dark spots it will be visible, I would totally recommend the Jasmine BB Cream instead.

Does it work?

Yes, definitely.
Suitable for dry, sensitive & sun damaged skin.
Leaves a healthy glow.
Moisturizes without sticky residue.
Very soothing.
Light texture.
